Shawna Virago (Vice-President) twists together insurgent country and punk roots rock, creating anthems for a new generation. Bucking the bigotry of mainstream music, Virago is one of the true pioneers of tranny rock. Her tuff and vulnerable lyrics dig deep at police brutality, the economic marginalization of transgender people and life lived on the sweet continuum of being trans. With her cigarette-singed vocals and school of hard knocks guitar playing, Virago’s songs punch out in-your-face sex and politics. One part poetess, one part ice queen and one part honky-tonk glamour girl, Virago is a Bay Area icon. Virago is also Director of TrannyFest, the acclaimed transgender film and video festival. www.shawnavirago.com
